At an arab cinema in Ismailia. Note the waiter service.
Kasfareet village beside the east gate bridge. This is the spot on the bank of the Sweetwater Canal where cows were slaughtered, skinned and cut up with the blood flowing into the canal ! Within an hour of having it`s throat cut, meat was hanging up in the shack on the right but you would not recognise it covered in flies.
On the booze somewhere. Ron Speller from Surrey I think then Bonzo, Bill Curtis from Leeds then me.
Fishing boats by the side of the Great Bitter Lake near Deversoir Point.

Here I am visiting Paul Munton at his Billet in RAF Abyad.
Paul was a close friend for years before joining the RAF before me but eventually he was transferred to the Canal Zone after me. I knew he was coming so I went over to El Hamra transit camp several days running to no avail and naturally the day I was on guard duty, he arrived at El Hamra and was sent straight down the zone to Abyad. I was able to catch a service bus to visit him and he likewise came up to Kas. Paul was best man at my wedding to Sheila in 1957 and years later, his son Chris was best man for my eldest son Ashley at his wedding.
This shot was taken from the verandah of Sqd/Ldr Hannaford`s bungalow right on the edge of the Gt Bitter Lake looking towards the Officers Club. I lived here for quite some time off station and used to babysit as and when required for the privilige. The place was about halfway between camp and Fayid.I was an unofficial bodyguard to his family as such because he was based up in Ismailia and spent a lot of time away.Every morning I caught a service bus into camp for work. There was a canoe which I repaired and used to paddle way out onto the lake. Fisherman used to trap king prawn beside the house which we bought for meals. That was the good life for me.
Port Said to Port Tewfik ferry crossing near the Suez Canal Company Offices in 1954. Me and Smudge used the service when we spent a couple of days leave at a service holiday camp in Tewfik and wanted to go into Port Said. The price was half an acker one way, free the other.
Johhny Martin and me on top of Mt Shubra. This was the highest point in the range of hills that ran north to south behind the Canal Zone. Used to catch a service bus down to somewhere near Abyad as a drop off point for a hike across country.
Prov 3`s Sgt Norman Mole also sitting on top of Mt Shubra.
Looking north from the top of Mount Shubra.
Port Said is 90 miles away.
